Framlingham Castle

Built in the 12th century Framlingham Castle is situated on a bluff overlooking the River Ore.

Framlingham Castle

Constructed out of flint and sandstone Framlingham Castle was built on the site of a previous motte and bailey castle which was destroyed Henry II in the 11th century.

Framlingham has a colourful past and was once the home of Mary Tudor and used a s a prison to house priests who defied the then new Church of England. In the center courtyard there is also poorhouse which was built in 1729.

Today Framlingham Castle is owned by english Heritage and there are regular events and activities held at the castle throughout the year.
